SNHBA Voluntary Affirmative Marketing Program (VAMA)

This is a voluntary program for builder members. If you are interested in becoming signatory, please contact the SNHBA office at 794-0017.

The affirmative marketing program between the SNHBA and HUD Region 9 in San Francisco has been in existence for more than 20 years. The program was instituted and has been maintained by the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, without added cost to our builder members, as a service to the members and to eliminate their individual companies from having to perform affirmative marketing programs on an individual basis.

What are the items which the Association performs pursuant to this agreement?

1. We meet with each builder who desires to become signatory, explain the program and provide a copy of the agreement and packet of materials.

2. Maintain the original contractual signatory documents for each company. Monthly, we supply updated signatory lists to the FHA Area Office, HUD Region 9 and interested mortgage companies.

3. On a regular basis, we randomly monitor builder advertising in the print media to ensure inclusion of the official equal opportunity logo in the ads. We also monitor billboard and TV advertising for FHA insured programs to ensure inclusions.

4. We advise builders, by letter, if we find advertisers in non-compliance. It is very important for the builder to advise their advertising agency to include the equal opportunity logo or slogan in accordance with HUD regulations.

5. Beverly Williams, Director of Administrative Services for the Association, oversees the program. She also serves on the CHRB (Community Housing Resource Board), whose purpose is to educate the community and to provide support to various groups. Through this HUD approved group we promote fair housing, provide outreach assistance to minority groups, conduct fair housing seminars, contests, programs, attendance and staffing of special booths during Fair Housing Month and provide brochures on fair housing.

6
. We deal directly with HUD Region 9 on affirmative marketing audits, visitation and new programs.

Without the area-wide voluntary affirmative marketing program administered by the Association, each individual company would have to contract individually with HUD and perform the above outreach programs on fair housing. The Association considers the program to be of real benefit to its builder members and are pleased to provide it.

If you have any questions on the program, please contact our office. It is our pleasure to assist you whenever possible.

REMEMBER:

1. Notify your ad agencies of the necessity to include the equal opportunity logo or slogan conforming to the HUD advertising regulations. Be sure to maintain copies of your ads.

2. Practice Fair Housing on your projects. Display the HUD fair housing poster and ensure your staff is informed and trained regarding the affirmative marketing program. Human models in advertising should represent both majority and minority groups.

3. Contact our office if we can assist you, (702) 794-0117, or info@snhba.com.
